The Electrolux Group
100 Years with Laundry Equipment
Electrolux Laundry Systems celebrated its 100th birthday in 2002. This is the story of how Electrolux Laundry Systems was formed.

Calor and Coronaverken
Electrolux Laundry Systems' history began long before the brand name Wascator became established. The company’s earliest beginnings stem from Värmelednings AB Calor, which started in Stockholm on May 9, 1902. Calor’s primary business interest was the installation of heating systems, but they also produced large, belt-driven washing machines for industrial use. Coronaverken AB, established in 1918, is another of the Swedish washing machine manufacturers that, like Calor, contributed to the origins of Electrolux Laundry Systems.

Electrolux-Wascator AB
The brand name Wascator – a combination of the words washing and lavatory – was given to a small front-loaded washing machine intended for household use at the end of 1940. A few years after the success of the first small Wascator washing machine, the whole company adopted the name Wascator.  A number of acquisitions and mergers took place during the years with, among others, CTC, The Swedish Cooperative Wholesale Society, Perhab, and DOMUS. In 1973, Electrolux purchased Wascator from the Corona Group and the name was changed to Electrolux-Wascator AB.

Electrolux Nyborg A/S
Electrolux Laundry Systems Denmark A/S is the result of a merger between two old Danish businesses: Vølund and Nyborg Jernstøberi, founded in 1846 and 1898 respectively. Initially the name of the company became Nyborg Laundry Machines A/S; this name changed again in 1999 to Electrolux Nyborg A/S. In the years that followed, the business expanded, established subsidiaries in the UK, and acquired the Swedish competitor, Osby. After joining the Electrolux Group in 1982, the factory in Tommerup specialised and began producing tumble dryers and hydro extractors; the production of washing machines (washer extractors) was moved to the production plant in Sweden.

Dubix de Souza
In 1992, the French company Dubix de Souza joined the Electrolux family. The brand name Dubix de Souza continued to be used under the company name Electrolux Systemes de Blanchisserie SA. On 1 January 2004, the name was changed to Electrolux Laundry Systems France. The production plant in France produces barrier washer extractors and flatwork ironers. The three production factories collaborate closely.

Electrolux Laundry Systems
In 1997, the name Electrolux Laundry Systems was introduced for the Group and on January 1 2004 all commercial laundry products ceased being marketed under the three brand names: Electrolux-Wascator, Electrolux-Nyborg and Dubix de Souza. Products from Electrolux Laundry Systems now only carry one global brand, Electrolux.
